iPhone 14 Pro Hands-On with NEW Features!

What's going on guys

iPhone14

It's Travis consumer and it's Apple day. So, you know, there are a ton of announcements, lots of new products, lots of cool things. So let's talk about it. So the first thing Apple opened up with was the Apple Watch. But we're going to start with the iPhone. We all want to know what's new about it, so let's talk about it.
So we have four new models. There's the iPhone 14,14 plus and then the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max.

Now what are the differences?

Right, so we've got the standard iPhone 14 and the bigger brother. Now the iPhone 14 plus looks like there's not going to be a mini this time around. So there's no iPhone 14 mini. They replaced that with a bigger version. But with that comes a bigger display, 6.7 inches versus the 6.1 that the standard has.

Bigger battery, can't be too mad at that. But these are basically the base models of the iPhone 14. And if I'm going to be honest with you guys, it's like they made the iPhone 13 Pro, the new iPhone 14 minus a couple of Pro features. But the same power that we had last year with the best models are what we're getting with the base models here. So we got an A 15 Bionic processor powering these guys.

But in terms of other changes, we've got new camera sensors in the back. We don't have like the triple camera system or anything. It's the two lenses. So we got an ultra wide as well as the wide angle lens. Now when it comes to the cameras, beyond the new hardware, we're also getting some new stuff. When it comes to the actual software side of things, apple is calling it photonic engine, where basically it's going to lead to better, clearer photos. Now also with the iPhone 14 new front facing camera, we're going to get auto focus. So now you can actually select the thing that you want to focus.

Before that wasn't really an option. Now it's far more visible being able to actually focus on something in your shot. So that's new. And of course, that's also coming to the Pro model as well. And these models are going to come in five colors. We got Midnight Starlight, a new Blue Purple and Product Red. And interestingly enough, the iPhone 14 Plus Apple states, has their best battery life ever. So if you're looking for something a little less expensive, but you want the most battery, that might be the one you want to look at. Now Apple did add a couple of new features across multiple devices. We've got that crash detection. So now if you happen to get into a car crash, your phone is going to be able to use the accelerometers, the gyroscope, all that kind of stuff. It's going to be taken into consideration. They use like machine learning to know that you are in a crash and your phone will automatically reach out to emergency services as well as emergency contact.

Now, for all you adventurous folks out there who do hiking and all kinds of rigorous activities outdoors, if you've ever run out of service or gotten lost, there's actually an emergency SOS feature that's coming later on in, I think, November, where you'll be able to connect with a satellite and reach out to emergency services. It has this new UI where you'll actually be able to point to a satellite so you can get connected again. It's one of the things that Apple is thinking about. When you don't have that service but you're trapped or something, it's definitely going to be pretty useful. I probably won't use it. I'm going outside. Those are the base models. We got to talk about the Pro, right? So I was hyped. I saw the pro. I was very excited. We saw a lot of rumors with multiple camera punch outs. Wasn't crazy about that. I like what we are seeing now.

I think what they're calling around the Internet is like the pill. But what's nice, though, is that it doesn't just sit there and take up this portion of your screen. Apple actually found a way to make it interactive, but what Apple has done here is added some software features to kind of enhance the experience and not just make it an eyesore. So now you can interact with it. Depending on what you're doing, you might be playing music or maybe even using a timer on your phone and you're going to actually see that pill expand with what you're doing and you can get some relevant information.

Even if you're in another app, no matter what you're doing, you're still going to be able to keep an eye on some activity that you've been doing previously. You can actually press down on that section and get an expanded version of it so you can interact with the content that's going to be there. The only problem here is that a lot of people might start pressing their cameras a lot more. You might get those fingerprint smudges over your camera.

So when you're going to take a selfie, you might need to wipe off your screen first. So we'll have to see how bad that is. All the touch bar, how you can interact with. I see you, Jay. We got like a little touch bar on the iPhone. I also think it's kind of cool how the Face ID icon shows up with the punch out. I feel like this is going to make a really smooth experience when operating the phone. I'm excited for it. Like even connecting. The AirPods has its own little symbol.

It's going to be dope. So that's part of the iPhone 14 Pro's new design. But they've also got some new colors or one new color. So there's Deep Black, which is a new name. You've also got silver, gold and Deep Purple. Apple, come on why did you get rid of the Blue Man? Now, of course, we're going to see some of the improvements that we would expect. This thing is going to be packing the A 16 Bionic processor. I'm not going to sit here and bore you with the specs. This thing is probably going to be one of the most impressive chips that we'll see for the whole year. Now we'll also be seeing improvements with the cameras.

So we've got some new camera sensors, as well as a new 48 megapixel wide angle camera, which is surprising. Apple doesn't usually do the huge megapixel thing, but they're doing it here. And Apple also introduced their quad pixel sensor, which is 65% larger than last year. And you know what that means you guys. We are going to see better lowlight performance. I'm personally extremely excited for that. We're going to test it out in the real world with the real day in the life.

So if you're not subscribed, definitely subscribe now, so you can see what it's like to actually own the phone and use it in the real world. They also introduced this new video mode, and this is also on the iPhone 14, the base models, where now there's like an action mode. So if you're, I don't know, capturing content of someone doing action stuff, maybe skateboarding, jogging, whatever it may be. So it should be a lot smoother.

The standard video had really good stabilization on the iPhone for a long time, but this is if you need like that extra step for action shots. Now, the last thing I'll mention about the cameras is I'm excited for the Ultra wide. So it's a twelve megapixel shooter, but the Ultra Wide is supposed to have three times better lowlight performance, which has always been the ultrawide we point for most phones. So I'm genuinely interested in seeing how that performs.

It's something I've been waiting on. There's also the 48 megapixel raw photos to the cinematic mode has four K thirty now. And you also have the pro ras. Okay, no more camera talk. We're done. We're done. Now, something I didn't mention yet is that the iPhone 14 Pro is going to now have an Always On Display. Now the Always On Display actually looks pretty cool because it's not going to be an all black screen. It's actually going to have a little bit of color to it. We should be able to see some information when you're not actively using the phone. So notifications coming in, different alerts that you might get.

You'll be able to see it just by glancing over at your phone, something we've seen on other phones for a long time and even on the Apple Watch. But now it's finally coming over to the iPhone 14 Pro.

I was interested to see what kind of impact it has on battery life now because the Pro models have that promotion display. I don't want to get nerdy here but it's going to slow the phone screen down quite a bit and it's also going to dim. It got the OLED screen, shouldn't be too bad, but we'll do some testing and figure it out. Now something else with that display is that now it is quite a bit brighter. So the peak HDR brightness is 1600 nits, which is really bright. But I believe the peak outdoor brightness is 2000 knits. So if you're outside, you will not need to worry about seeing what's on your display. 2008 is absolutely insane. So I'm really curious because I have that thing on all the time.

I get four minutes of battery life. I feel like Apple is catering a lot to outdoor activities, trying to tell me to get in shape, I need to go outside now, I won't go outside. This bugs. Now something that the iPhone 14 pro models as well as the base models have or don't have, are going to be a SIM tray. Now, I know that's going to be a little bit touchy for a lot of people. Some people like to take their phones and travel internationally, pop in a SIM card. I don't know if eSIMs are an option everywhere, but I saw some people complaining already.

I'm personally happy about it. I'm happy about it because I hate the process of popping out the SIM, throwing it in there and moving it along to the new device. Aren't we always looking for the same ejector tool? It's a pain. So I'm glad to see it gone, but we are going to see what kind of impact it has on international travel. So there are a lot of cool things coming to all four of the models of the new iPhones. I'm excited. I really like the idea of that dynamic island, but my only concern is how much it impacts the viewing experience for just like everyday content based on what we saw with the video earlier with our hands on, shouldn't be an issue unless you really want to maximize the screen at that point. It'll be pretty visible.

Now, those weren't the only things that Apple announced. They also announced their new Apple Watch series eight. Apple Watch Se and the Apple Watch Altra. Like there is a completely new category to the Apple Watch, which I'm personally really excited about. So with the Series Eight, we got some standard upgrades, nothing too crazy. The design is very much the same as the Series Seven over here. But with the Series Eight, there are a couple of new features. So now there's going to be a temperature sensor which can track your temperature at night. I think it tracks it as much as like every 5 seconds while you're sleeping. Now why this is useful, it's actually going to be pretty useful for a lot of women out there, especially if you are looking to conceive reproduce, have a baby. All right, if you try to have a kid.

This thing is going to definitely help out because it's going to help you track your Ovulation. Now, this thing also has the crash detection that we talked about earlier. So let's say you don't even have your phone. If your watch can sense an impact from the front side of your car, it also uses the mics to hear crash sounds.

It uses all of that to identify whether or not you've been in an accident. And then it can also call emergency services as well as your emergency contacts. It's going to also feature that same 18 hours of battery life. And if you go into this new low power mode, you're going to be able to get 36 hours, basically doubling it.

But you do lose a couple of features, but for the most part, all the important things are going to still be there. So Apple Watch series eight not a huge upgrade compared to the series seven. So don't need to worry too much if you already have a Series Seven, but you might worry if you want that Apple Watch Ultra. So this is a completely new category made with the outdoors in mind. It is a lot more rugged.

You can see that it's got a bigger frame. It's definitely a bit chunkier than the regular series seven or series Eight. You can submerge it far more than you can this. I think twice as much. It even has special underwater ratings that I've never heard of. So you can go scuba diving with this. It's actually a scuba diving computer or a what's the term? Scuba divers. Got a computer on your hand. Now, it tracks your depth, water temperature, all kinds of information that you just wouldn't be able to do with this guy because of how robust it is.

Now, clearly it's a chunkier Apple Watch, but they've made some really nice design changes that I'm personally a fan of. So now it's got this really flat display, and it also has edge protection. The edges actually come up just a little bit to protect the screen. We kind of see that activity with phone cases where you've got that lip around the screen so that when you're placing it on a surface, you don't have to really worry about the screen getting messed up.

It also comes with an extra speaker. And interestingly enough, with the outdoors in mind, that speaker can be used to play a siren. Apple is really trying to make sure people don't get lost out here. I mean, you probably get lost on this campus. Honestly. It's probably for the employees. The employees probably get lost all the time. They need those features. They also added this new action button on the left side, which you can actually customize, so you can customize it to do different things. When you go into the settings, you can see a list of different things that you can access. One of the settings was Torch, where you actually be able to turn on the flashlight. Probably what I'll be setting. Mine too.

One thing, though, I wish there were other colors. Right now it looks like we're only seeing this orange color. I was told that this was like an international thing. I don't know if that's going to be something you wear all the time. You wear that to a formal dinner, man. Jay is like, I don't go to formal dinners. Fair enough. But it's got an interesting look to it. It's definitely meant for outdoors. Lots of cool stuff that you can do with it there. Now it's crazy is the battery life.

You know, I was saying low power mode on the Series Eight gives you that 36 hours. This thing gives you 36 hours right off the bat. And in the future, Apple talked about being able to eventually get to 60 hours of battery life. I'm not sure if that's like a low power mode or what, but 60 hours is going to be on the horizon at some point. Probably a special setting that you got to turn on, but that's pretty wild. Now, we didn't really talk about the right side of it, how it's got like that protruding edge.

Now what do you guys think? I'm not super crazy about the look, but it does have a larger digital crown, and you do get access to your side button over here. And if you are outside, this thing does have more precise GPS as well as more compass features, so you can actually go on a hike and track your steps. So if for whatever reason you get lost and you need to backtrack there's, that setting in there so that you can just follow your footsteps.

And as you're doing your travel, if there are certain points that you come across that you find to be important, there are additional way points that you can add to your compass. I think that's pretty cool. You can label them, select colors, all that kind of stuff. Pretty interesting for you hikers out there, who I cannot relate with. I need the battery life, jay so the Apple Watch also looks really cool. I'm pumped to get my hands on it. Now. Another thing that I am super excited for, AirPods Pro Two, baby. So the AirPods Pro Two are finally going to be coming. Expect all the videos.

I'm definitely covering that. There aren't going to be a ton of changes with this. Looks pretty much the same, but audio supposedly enhanced, so we're going to get better audio quality. There are now new touch controls, so you can actually just swipe up or down the capacitive touch. So those volume controls that we've all been asking for, very easy. You still get the standard force control, so you can play and pause, skip tracks, go back, all that good stuff.

You still have access to all of that. Now the case is where a lot of the cool stuff happens with the case. You're now going to be able to precisely find the case with the Find My app as well as let out a sound so you know exactly where it is. Something we've been needing for a long time. So you can now find individual earbuds as well as the case or the earbuds inside of the case. Makes life a lot easier. There's also a little cut out for a lanyard if you want. If you don't want to throw it in your pocket. Ladies might not have a pocket to put it in.

You can throw a little lanyard on it. Some nice additions you can even throw on emojis if you want to engrave it. But I'm really excited for the AirPods. But those are really the coolest things that came out from today's event. Lots of good stuff. What do you guys think? What is your absolute favorite? Let me know with a comment down below. I'll catch you guys with a lot more coverage of all of the new Apple products in the next few days. So that's your average consumer peace.
